Inspection of tubes in the production line

Eddy current inspection system for the automatic inspection of surface defects
(cracks, scabs, blowholes, pores) on tubes (welded or seamless)

Some technical data:
• Inspection standards: fulfils all international standards for the eddy current inspection of tubes (e. g. DIN/EN 10246)
• Range of diameter for the tubes that are to be inspected: up to Ø 90 mm
• Length of tubes: usually 2 m to 15 m (other lengths are possible)
• Test speed: depends on the feed respectively the removal of the tubes respectively a possible paint marking or alternating field demagnetization – usually approximately 2 m/sec (noticeably higher speeds are possible)

Components of the standard test station:
• Input dual driver with V-rollers
• Circumferential differential “ULAD”-test coil in the magnetizing yoke
• Elevating platform/sliding table to adjust the test coil
• Output dual driver with V-rollers
• Switch cabinet with test instrument and computer to document the test results
• ELOTEST PL500 eddy current test instrument, 2 channels to inspect the tubes with differential and absolute signal. Shift register to control the optional paint marker
• EloLine documentation software
• Inductive sensors before and after the driver units to determine the position of the tubes and to control the upper guide roller
• V-rollers of the driver and upper guide rollers made from hardened steel or alternatively plastics
• Light barrier in front of the magnetizing yoke and encoder at the input and output driver to document the defects true to their location with the EloLine software and to control the paint marker as needed

Additional components:
• Hold for tube bundles in the feed
• Separation and feed of the tubes on the roller conveyor
• Input roller conveyor
• DC-constant field demagnetizing unit
• AC-alternating field demagnetizing unit
• Paint marker to mark the defects longitudinally
• Output roller conveyor
• Sorting in “good” and “bad” parts
• Hold to bundle the tubes
• Expansion of the inspection system to sort the material with ULAS-sorting coils
• Expansion of the inspection system to detect longitudinal defects with an EC-rotor
• Additional elevation platform/sliding table to adjust additional components for the inspection
• Additional dual drivers with V-rollers
• Control of the feed and removal of the tubes respectively rods and their sorting

Test systems and accessories:

ELOTEST PL500
Designed as 2-channel unit in a 19”/4HU-rack; 375 mm deep
• Test frequency: 10 Hz to 12 MHz
• Front panel featuring 9”-color display 800 x 480 pixel 16 : 9-display for the simultaneous depiction of up to 8 signals with a display rate of 250,000 signal dots/channel
The magnetization during the inspection of ferromagnetic semifinished productsis used to suppress variations in the permeability and noticeably improves thesignal/noise ratio.

Magnetizing yoke and accessories:
• M90 magnetizing yoke to receive ULAD-1 H-107 test coils
• PA90/40 adapter to receive ULAD-1 H-35 test coils
• MD90 magnetizing protection nozzle
• MD90/40 magnetization protection nozzle adapter for protection nozzles with smaller diameters

ULAD-test coils:
• ULAD-1 H-107 in 16 graduations, Ø 47 – 100 mm
Surface inspection of smooth or rough wires and rods, on seamless or welded tubes. The differential connection of the coil ensures the detection of transverse defects even at the highest speeds. The separate absolute connection of the ULAD-coil is used to obtain information regarding the absolute values for material sorting, variations of the wall thickness, unwelded seams. May be plugged into the M90 magnetizing yoke or N90 coil holder.

DC-demagnetization:
The constant field demagnetization is used to leave tubes respectively rods that were magnetized in a constant with as little residual magnetism as possible.

AC-demagnetization:
The alternating field demagnetization is used to further reduce the residual magnetism.

EloLine software:
Standard software to visualize and document test results during the eddy current inspection of long products. Simple circumferential coil systems and complex multi-channel rotor or multiplex applications are supported. Up to 8 test channels are processed and combined into a collective result that may be evaluated in a location-dependent manner.
